Aaron Weiss (singer, shouter, lyrical mastermind) has been an inspiration to me and my friends for years. mewithoutYou has gone through so many wonderful metamorphoses since their beginning. They are true East Coast personalities with a delightful human-ness. Always see them live. Their release this year It’s All Crazy! It’s All False! It’s All a Dream! It’s Alright is arguably the best yet. It’s different, yes, than past endeavors but the boundaries they are pushing and the territory they are milling around in is fantastic. It’s All Crazy… is one of those records that has many stages of listening. There’s levels of appeal and discoveries to be made that only surface after listening over and over and over. And that is what I do. If you’re listening (and not just hearing), this record will catch you at every stage of life. Its overt anthems of forgiveness have really been impacting me. It’s rife with metaphor and allegory, and the musical and lyrical complexity demands an attentive listener. At the same time, every bit of chaos fits together so poetically that you can’t help but smile the very first time.
One thing I love about the band is that they are so genuine. Meeting them in person is like hearing them on stage. Listening to their album in my car is like having Aaron in my front seat. I can’t explain it per se, but I do know if you meet Aaron in an alley, he’ll be scavenging around for dumpster bagels and gladly offer you one. You also might find him in the pew next to you at church one day as he ventures to the midwest to rescue a stranded tour van. They’re just real people, really creative, and really inspiring to all who love music and the methods behind it.
